How many languages do you know? If you only know one, then you are missing out on a lot. When you learn a new language, you open up so many possibilities. Just think of it. When you learn a new language you read more books, you can watch and understand more movies, you can travel to new places with confidence and you can meet some new friends. The benefits that you can get from acquiring a new language do not end there. There’s more but these should be enough to convince you that a new language is worth studying.
Obstacles to Learning
So now you are convinced that it is worth your while to learn a new language, what you need to realize now is that it is not going to be easy. For some people acquiring a new language is a walk in the park. They could master multiple languages. That’s a talent, just as being able to sing well or dance really well are. But don’t be discouraged if you don’t have that kind of skill. Most people do not. What matters is that you are willing to learn and that should be enough.
There are many obstacles to learning a new language. One of those is the background that you have. Your language might have a totally different way of pronunciation to the one that you are learning. Another obstacle is poor learning aids. The books that you are using might contain plenty of inaccuracies in which case you would be learning the wrong information. That’s worse than no information at all.
Learn Ten Words Everyday
One trick that many language experts use is to learn at least ten new words everyday. Try concentrating on simple words that are used in ordinary conversation like food, water, sleep, eat and money. Just stick to that rate and pretty soon you would have an impressive vocabulary.
If you are in the country where the language that you want to learn is being spoken then your best friend would be the television. Watch anything there that’s on the native language. News and children shows would be the best show for you to watch. News would have plenty of images that you can associate with the words, while the wording on children’s shows is simple enough that you should be able to understand those.
Find Someone to Talk to
But by far the most effective means of learning a new language is by having someone that you can talk to using it. It would be best if you can find a native who also understands your own language. That way he/she can serve as your teacher as you try to learn.
Learn Whole Sentences
Another effective method is to learn whole phrases that you can actually use. Once you have learned those phrases keep on saying it so you can have it memorized.
These are just some of the things that you can try in order to learn a new language.
